The Holland, Mich., native made 13 appearances with the Battery during the 2014 campaign, coming on as a substitute in their Quarterfinal match against the Richmond Kickers.

Vancouver’s first choice, 10th overall, in the 2013 MLS Supplemental Draft, Mena spent five seasons with the University of Notre Dame from 2008-12. The 5-foot-10, 145-pound midfielder recorded six goals and five assists in 55 appearances with the Fighting Irish, including three game-winning goals over a two-year span. In addition to his on-field duties, Mena received the program’s Rockne Scholar-Athlete Award in 2010-11 and was a three-time Big East Academic All-Star.

During his time with the Fighting Irish, Mena also competed in the PDL with the West Michigan Edge (2008), Kalamazoo Outrage (2009) and Indiana Invaders (2009-11). After his final season with the Invaders, Mena was selected to the PDL All-Central Conference Team.

Prior to his collegiate career, Mena started three seasons at West Ottawa High School, where he was coached as a freshman by TNT West Director of Coaching Larry De Leon. His 66 career goals remains a school record. Mena was a two-time First-Team All-State honoree while with the Panthers.
